The COVID-19 pandemic permanently altered global work habits, moving the daily professional routine directly into living spaces. However, conventional furniture was never designed for this shift. Traditional static desks fail to support the dynamic nature of a full workday, which requires constant context-switching between deep concentration, video calls, administrative tasks and necessary downtime. KOSMOS addresses this shortfall by rethinking how physical furniture can support the multi-layered reality of modern remote work.
1. Project Brief & Concept
Designed in response to remote work needs, KOSMOS bridges the gap between focused productivity and relaxed co-working. Meaning „an ordered universe,“ this modular ecosystem transforms home offices and student learning spaces into adaptable environments where standalone components function individually or combine into a harmonious whole.
2. Materiality & Color Palette
The design balances focused work with homely warmth. A clean, neutral base, light gray aluminum, dark gray linoleum, white accents and natural birch wood, creates a distraction-free atmosphere. Vibrant orange upholstery inserts provide an energetic visual boost, creating an inviting contrast for relaxation and collaboration.

4. Fabrication & Manufacturing Process
The production process combines CNC-milling finishings with press-laminated linoleum with powder-coated aluminum framing for the desk and pedestal. Soft-good fabrication includes custom foam cutting, precision-sewn orange lounge upholstery, felt cable management pocket and zipper-connected acoustic partition screens. Seamless tech and hardware integration completes the build, embedding wireless inductive chargers, full-extension drawer slides, and smooth-glide casters.
5. Desk & Smart Cable Management
The main desk (800 x 1600 mm) features an ultra-lightweight aluminum frame and multiplex laminated in anthracite linoleum. An integrated gray felt cable trough conceals power strips while housing three modular, interchangeable inserts: a flush Wireless Charger element, a slotted Cable Lid for routing wires, and a integrated VESA Mount insert for monitor arms.
6. Mobile Storage
Crafted from light-gray coated MDF boards, this compact mobile pedestal provides efficient daily organization. It features three spacious full-extension drawers, a top utility tray, and an open frame handle that echoes the geometric design of the desk legs.
7. Functional Acoustic Panels
Privacy and sound control are managed by a two-piece, 160 cm high acoustic partition wall. Connected by an integrated zipper, these dual-color screens function as a sound absorber, pinboard, visual barrier, and flexible room divider around the workspace.
8. Lounging & Collaborative Modules
For breaks or informal co-working, the system includes a vibrant armchair and ottoman combination alongside the „Satellite“ side table. Replicating the desk’s minimalist aesthetic, this seating nook allows users to seamlessly transition from computer tasks and video calls to relaxed reading or coffee breaks within the same workspace.
